New York, NY — A car lost control in an automobile accident on a Brooklyn highway, killing two women and injuring a man on Sunday, December 16, 2012. The fatal crash occurred in the East Flatbush neighborhood just before 5 a.m., reports the Wall Street Journal.

According to reports, a Nissan Murano SUV was traveling north on Kings Highway, between Snyder Avenue and Church avenues, when it crossed over multiple lanes of traffic and crashed into a Ford Explorer SUV.

Two women inside the Nissan, who were both correctional officers, were identified as Tiffany Underwood, 31, and Africaque Smith, 43. The damage was so severe that they had to be extricated by responding emergency crews.

The driver of the Ford, a 23-year-old male, was transported by responding emergency crews to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

It is unknown at this time what caused the Nissan to collide with the Ford, or if drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the deadly wreck.

Investigations are ongoing.
