Man Killed in Industrial Accident at Saugerties Shale Mine

Saugerties, NY — An industrial accident at a shale mine killed a Greene County man late Thursday night, November 1, 2012. The fatal industrial accident occurred around 6:50 p.m. at Northeast Solite Corp. located at 1135 Kings Highway in the Town of Saugerties, reports RecordOnline.com.

According to reports, Stephen Wickham, 30, was operating an industrial drill to bore holes for demolition charges when he apparently became entangled in the shaft of the machine’s auger.

Wickham suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saugerties police, state troopers, Mount Marion Fire Department and investigators from the U.S Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration all responded to the scene.

Investigations are underway.
