Two people, including an emergency responder and retired firefighter, were killed when a car crossed a Staten Island median and slammed into an ambulance Monday, August 27, 2012. The incident occurred at Seacrest Avenue and Hyland Boulevard at approximately 7 p.m., explains New York City automobile accident attorney, Jonathan C. Reiter.

The ambulance was transporting a patient to the hospital when the accident occurred. A second EMT inside the vehicle and the patient suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.

Police reports indicate the emergency medical responder driving the ambulance was pinned inside the vehicle upon impact. He was transported to Staten Island University Hospital suffering from cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the other vehicle was ejected from the car upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The emergency medical technician was identified as David Restuccio. He retired from the FDNY eight years ago, and was one of the first responders to the Twin Towers attack on September 11, 2001.

Police were continuing to investigate the accident as of August 29, 2012.
