Washington – The federal government has shut down several bus company operations due to safety violations following a yearlong investigation. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued shutdown orders Wednesday that declared 26 companies in six states hazardous to the safety of the public. Several individuals including company owners were also ordered to cease passenger transportation operation involvement all together.

Companies that were a major focus of the shutdowns included those operated by Apex Bus Inc. and I-95 Coach Inc.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is quoted by the AP as stating of the investigation during a conference call with reporters on Thursday, “This is a huge, big deal for us today… This isn’t some overnight deal — this is something we’ve been working on, and we want people to know bus safety is one of our top priorities.”
