Staten Island, NY – While 2011 may have turned out to be one of the safest years for traffic-related deaths in New York City, the year did not see the safest ending, according to New York City auto accident attorney Jonathan C Reiter. He explains two separate incidents during the last days of December left three people injured, including a police officer and two young boys.

On December 29, 2011, a 12-year old boy and a 13-year old boy, both suffered broken legs after they were hit by a car in the Mariners Harbor neighborhood of Staten Island. A law enforcement officer reported the boys were riding together on a minibike at approximately 3 pm when Neil Evans, 44, struck them. The 13-year old was sent flying and the other was dragged about 10 feet, according to information received by Staten Island injury attorney Jonathan C Reiter.

Prosecuting documents charge that Evans stopped the car, surveyed the scene and saw the boys lying injured and then drove away. An eyewitness later found the vehicle parked a few blocks away, near Evans’ Albert Court home, explains New York City auto accident attorney Jonathan C Reiter. The witness reported the findings to authorities who then questioned the man. Evans denied being the driver, but the eyewitness placed him in the car at the scene of the crime.

The 12-year-old boy suffered two broken legs, including a compound fracture in his left femur. The 13-year-old boy suffered a fractured leg as well.

Staten Island injury attorney Jonathan C Reiter states Evans was arrested Thursday, January 5, 2012 and charged with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting.

Adding to the end-of-year New York City auto accidents, a December 30 carjacking at the Village Green Shopping Center on Arden Avenue in Arden Heights resulted in a man’s broken leg.

According to reports, 37-year-old Jonathan Argenziano jumped into a car as the owner got out and ran over the owner’s leg during an ensuing struggle and getaway. Argenziano was arrested Thursday as well, and charged with felony counts of robbery, arson, evidence tampering and stolen-property possession, according to reports received by Staten Island injury attorney Jonathan C Reiter. Argenziano allegedly ditched the car and set it on fire to cover up the theft and assault.

New York City auto accident attorney Jonathan C Reiter explains all victims are expected to make full recoveries, after their undoubtedly painful recovery process.
