Sacramento, CA — A collision involving a light-rail train and a vehicle in downtown Sacramento injured five people on Thursday, March 29, 2012. The train accident occurred just after 11 a.m., about a block south of the state Capitol, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

According to reports, a BMW was hit by the train, which then caused the BMW to hit another vehicle that spun out of the way. The BMW was then thrown into a tree by the train.

Responding emergency crews had to cut the roof and some doors off to reach the driver. The driver, who remains unidentified, was taken to the hospital with moderate and non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a pregnant woman, was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Three of the six passengers on the two-car train were also taken to the hospital after they complained of pain.

It is unknown at this time whether the BMW or the train caused the wreck.

Investigations are underway.
