8 Hospitalized Following Two-Vehicle Crash Near Ravia

Ravia, OK — Eight people were rushed to the hospital Saturday, March 3, 2012, after a driver fell asleep behind the wheel and veered into oncoming traffic. The automobile accident occurred at about 8:45 a.m. on State Highway 1, near Ravia, reports the Daily Ardmoreite.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Lauren Griffin, 22, of Tishomingo, was traveling eastbound on the highway when she fell asleep while driving a 2003 Dodge van. The van veered over the centerline, where it hit a westbound 2004 Chevrolet, driven by Phyliss Jackson, 57, of Tishomingo.

Responding emergency crews rushed Griffin by ambulance to Mercy Memorial Medical Center in Ardmore, where she was treated and released.

Jackson was transported by ambulance to the Ardmore medical facility, where she is listed in stable condition.

One passenger in the van, Darin Griffin, 33, of Tishomingo, was airlifted to OU Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.

Four children in the van, identified as Destiny Griffin, 1, Trinity Griffin, 1, Kaydence Griffin, 2, and Kobe Griffin, 12, were taken by private vehicle to MMHC, where they were treated and released.

A passenger in Jackson’s vehicle, identified as Sue Cape, 60, of Mill Creek was also transported to MMHC, where she was treated and released.

It was not reported if Griffin is facing any charges related to the wreck.
