NC State Student Critically Injured in Bicycle Accident

Raleigh, NC — A bicycle accident has critically injured an N.C. State student when a vehicle driven by another student hit the bicyclist early Sunday, February 19, 2012. The accident occurred on Dan Allen Drive at Yarbrough Drive at about 2:50 a.m., reported the News Observer.

According to police, the bicyclist and vehicle were traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicle turned left onto a service road that leads to Dan Allen Parking Deck, and collided with the bicyclist. The impact then threw the cyclist onto the windshield.

Responding emergency crews rushed the bicyclist, Steven Kendal Otto, to WakeMed in serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Ross Everett Chapman, was arrested and charged for driving while impaired. Ross had a blood level of 0.12. The legal driving limit in North Carolina is 0.08.

A search warrant has been obtained to draw Chapman’s blood to test for alcohol or drugs.

Investigations are underway.
