Chicago, IL — A CTA bus and a vehicle collided head-on Monday morning, February 13, 2012, killing a 30-year-old man in the South Side’s Englewood neighborhood. The fatal bus accident occurred just before 8 a.m. on the 6700 block of South Halstead Street, reported the Morris Daily Herald.

According to reports, the No. 8 Halstead Street bus was headed southbound when a northbound vehicle crossed over to the bus lane, and slammed head-on into the bus.

Responding emergency crews rushed the two men inside the vehicle to Stroger Hospital, where one of the men was pronounced dead. Simeon Allen of the 0-99 block of West 62nd Street suffered fatal injuries. The other man was listed in serious-to-critical condition and has since stabilized.

Allen was reportedly the passenger in the vehicle, which was described as a Ford Taurus by a Tribune photographer.

None of the 10 passengers on the CTA bus were injured, and refused medical treatment.

Police News Affairs stated that the driver of the Taurus was driving too fast for conditions.

Investigations are underway.
