Smyrna, TN — An accident at a Nissan Plant killed one person early Friday morning, January 27, 2011. The fatal work-related accident occurred at the vehicle assembly plant in Smyrna around 1:30 a.m., reported NewsChannel5.com.

Nissan reported that a transportation company employee was killed outside the Nissan Breakout Center, which is a parts delivery warehouse. A semi-truck reportedly began to roll, while the driver was outside of the truck. He was subsequently pinned between the truck and a stationary object, which led to his fatal injuries.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.

The driver was reportedly delivering his trailer to a nearby storage yard when the accident occurred.

News Channel 5 reported that Nissan released a statement concerning the death: “Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the individual involved. Nissan and the transportation company will continue to cooperate with Smyrna police and TOSHA officials throughout the investigation.”

Investigations are ongoing.
