Knollwood, IL — One person was injured when an SUV plowed into the side of Scooter’s restaurant on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. The SUV accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Route 176 near Waukegan Road, reported the Lake County Sun-News.
The owner of the SUV, 48-year-old Stephanie Burke of Lake Bluff, was charged with one misdemeanor count of child neglect and a traffic citation for leaving her 2007 Acura SUV unattended while running.
Burke had left her two 9-year-old children and a 6-year-old child in the vehicle while she ran into the restaurant to pick up food, when one of the 9-year-olds got into the driver seat.
The child then basically drove the vehicle into the building, and injured a 40-year-old female patron from Waukegan. The accident left the woman with minor hip injuries, due to the structural damage caused to the building.
Responding emergency crews rushed the injured woman to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Burke posted a $100 bond, and will appear in the Lake County Circuit Court on Feb. 1.
Investigations into the SUV accident are ongoing.
