Bethesda, MD — A two-vehicle collision involving a Metrobus and a pickup truck left one person dead and shut down the Rockville Pike Wednesday afternoon, December 28, 2011. The fatal traffic accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. near Cedar Lane on the Rockville Pike in Bethesda, reports the Washington Post.

Montgomery County police reported a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was traveling in the southbound lanes when it crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes, where it collided with the Metrobus. The bus then veered off the road and hit a tree before coming to a stop.

Police say it is still unclear what caused the truck to cross the median.

Responding emergency crews extricated the female bus driver, 41-year-old Lennitta L Bryant of Silver Spring, who suffered serious injuries.

Nine others were also reportedly injured in the wreck.

Investigations into the fatal bus accident are underway. Police are asking that if you witnessed the crash that you call them at 301-840-2435.
