Bristol, IN — A deadly traffic accident in northern Indiana killed at least seven people and hospitalized four others Thursday, October 27, 2011. The fatal crash occurred along the Indiana Toll Road near Bristol, just south of the Michigan border, reported CBS News.

According to witnesses, it appeared a minivan may have hit a deer before slowing down and coming to a stop in the eastbound lanes. A tractor-trailer then hit the van, which was carrying 10 people, from behind. Both vehicles ended up in the center median following the impact of the crash.

Responding emergency crews pronounced seven of the minivan’s occupants dead at the scene. Three others from the minivan were transported to area hospitals, which included two victims who were airlifted. Their conditions and nature of their injuries are unknown at this time.

The driver of the semi-truck was also hospitalized.

No other vehicles were involved in the deadly wreck and the identities of the victims are being withheld.
