Douglas County, CO — A garbage truck driver is dead after being run over by his own garbage truck on Thursday, September 1, 2011. The fatal work-related accident occurred on Daniel’s Gate Road in Castle Pines North, reported The Denver Channel.

According to police, Brian Rojas, 40, was driving an Eagle Waste Services garbage truck while standing up, which is a typical occurrence for that type of truck. Rojas reportedly leaned out of the open-door cab to move a wheeled trash can with his hand that was blocking the truck, when he fell out of the cab and landed under the wheels of the moving truck.

Responding emergency crews arrived at the scene where they found him conscious and speaking, before airlifting him to Swedish Medical Center in serious condition.

Later on that day, Rojas was listed as being in “critical condition.” On Saturday, Rojas died from his traumatic injuries.

The Douglas County Coroner ruled his death as an accident.
