New York, NY — A Queens woman was awarded a $20 million judgment for a bus accident that caused the woman to lose an arm, a leg and was blinded in one eye, reported the Wall Street Journal.

Alfreda Kusz, 59, of Queens, was awarded the judgment after a New York jury found the Metropolitan Transport Authority liable for the June 15, 2009 bus accident.

Court documents revealed that the victim waited for the pedestrian walk signal before crossing the road, when she was hit by the bus in Long Island City.

Her lawyer says Kusz will now be able to receive the medical care she deserves.

The MTA is planning to appeal the judgment. They claim that the bus was already in the crosswalk before Kusz, and had the right-of-way.
