(Social Media for Lawyers News Alert) — The Internet has been abuzz about the initial stages of the launch of Google+, which is the search engine giant’s latest attempt to break into the social media arena and position themselves among other social media giants like Facebook and Twitter. With this latest social media platform launch, law firms are anxiously watching to see if Google+ is the new social media avenue that they can successfully use to launch their lawyer social media campaigns.

Google+ is a lot like Facebook, but with a few twists. The new social media site offers new features—unlike Facebook—which include video chat, group messaging from your phone, and a specialized content finder. But, lawyers and other brands are being put on the back burner until later this year when Google+ releases its business profiles.

Attorney Internet marketing companies that use social media for lawyers in their law firm advertising campaigns, say when Google+ does launch its business profiles it could be a viable avenue for marketing attorneys. The International Business Times reported that it is estimated that as many as 20 million people could be using Google+ by this weekend, according to a report by Ancestry.com founder Paul Allen. This possibility has attorney Internet marketing companies feeling more confident about the potential lawyer advertising capabilities of the new social media platform.

Christian Oestlian, who heads Google+ ads stated in a Google+ post, “The business experience we are creating should far exceed the consumer profile in terms of its usefulness to businesses. We just ask for your patience while we build it.”

Lawyers can likely expect the business profiles to utilize Google’s search engine, as well as bundling other Google products like Google Docs, Gmail, Google Chat, Google Voice, etc. In addition, an e-commerce platform is also expected, which would allow businesses and consumers to exchange money for goods through Google Checkout.

The speculation about the incorporation of Google’s search engine into its Google+ business profiles is especially good news for attorneys who are marketing on the Internet, and utilizing social media for lawyers, as this could tie together many aspects of their lawyer Internet marketing campaign. By potentially linking your Google+ business profile, lawyer website, social media accounts, attorney blog and lawyer ads on Google, your lawyer Internet marketing campaign can become a well-rounded and cohesive campaign.

“Google+ is intended to make the entire Google experience better by including you, your relationships and your interests. By enhancing the Google experience, we believe users will search more, share more, and spend more time on Google sites, which in turn will improve our existing monetization,” a Google spokesperson wrote to MediaPost.

While its going to take some time to determine if Google+ business profiles are a hit and can facilitate successful attorney Internet marketing campaigns—which use social media for lawyers— it is something law firms should keep their eye on as a new avenue to market their firms.
