Rochester, NY — A four-vehicle crash involving an SUV and three school buses injured 11 students on Thursday, June 16, 2011. The school bus crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m. on Mount Hope, near Linden Street, reported the Democrat and Chronicle.

According to Rochester police officials, the SUV was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, when it swerved to miss a northbound school bus. In doing so, the SUV clipped a second school bus and hit a third northbound school bus.

The crash involved two First Student school buses, which were transporting students from School 12.

Eleven students sustained non-life-threatening injuries that included bumps, bruises and neck and back injuries. The injured students were being treated at the scene.

At least four students were taken to an area hospital for further medical treatment. About five children were placed on backboards, and others have neck braces on and a variety of other injuries.

Investigations into the school bus crash are underway. It was not reported if the driver of the SUV was injured or charged for the multiple-vehicle wreck.
