Boston, MA — A runaway BMW hit a Boston woman and dragged her down Mount Vernon Street in Boston’s Back Bay. The accident occurred Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the intersection of Charles Street, reported TheBostonChannel.com.

According to witnesses, a black BMW was double parked several blocks up the hill, when it began to roll down Mount Vernon Street. The runaway vehicle hit a yellow Smart Car at the intersection.

A 45-year-old woman was also hit, dragged and pinned under the car. The BMW reportedly hit a pole before coming to a stop

Responding firefighters and bystanders lifted the vehicle with jacks to pull the woman to safety. She was awake and talking as she was being rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police officers reported that the BMW was left in neutral, but the vehicles’ owner claims that the emergency brake was on. The owner apparently chased the car as it started to roll down the street.

Investigations are underway. No charges have been filed at this time.
