Raleigh, IL — A traffic accident involving three semi-trucks on Route 34 left one man dead. The fatal tractor-trailer accident occurred at around 3:10 a.m., Monday morning, April 18, 2011, near the Raleigh curve on Route 34, reported the Daily Register.

According to police officials, Bradley Conkle, 49, of Rosiclare was driving a white 1996 Kenworth with a dump trailer loaded with coal, when he lost control for unknown reasons. The semi-truck overturned and was hit by a yellow 2000 International driven by Danny Brown, 35, of Galatia. Brown’s rig then drove off the right side of the roadway and rolled over onto its side. Conkle’s big rig was then struck again by a blue 2004 Western Star with a dump trailer, which was driven by James Farmer, 52, of Harrisburg.

Responding emergency crews rushed Brown to Harrisburg Medical Center, where he was later taken to another hospital by emergency helicopter. His injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Farmer was treated at HMC and released.

Coroner Jerry Watson pronounced Conkle dead at 4:20 a.m.

Saline County Sheriff’s Deputies, Harrisburg Police, Eldorado Police and the Illinois State Police all responded to the crash.

Investigations are underway.
