Rhode Island Worker Hit, Run Over by Payloader at United Paper Stock

Pawtucket, RI — A worker was seriously injured in an industrial accident at United Paper Stock on Monday, April 18, 2011. The industrial accident occurred at 1:20 p.m., at 33 India St., reported the Providence Journal.

According to Pawtucket Police officials, Ramiro Cruz, 40, of Central Falls was hit and run over by a front-end payloader.

The driver of the payloader was sorting paper and cardboard at the time. He said he didn’t see Cruz when he struck him.

Responding emergency crews rushed to the scene, where they found Cruz still conscious. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he went underwent surgery. Cruz is currently listed in serious condition and is in the intensive care unit.

The driver of the machinery is not suspected of any wrongdoing at this time. Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) arrived at the scene and are conducting a full investigation.
