Anne Arundel County, MD — A man was killed after he was knocked off a bridge in a collision, causing him to fall 52 feet to the water below. The fatal automobile accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011, on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, reported the WBALTV.

According to Maryland Transportation Authority officials, the driver of a disabled Honda Accord was stopped on the bridge when he got out to check on his vehicle. A passing flatbed truck hit the Honda, which caused the car to hit the man. The collision threw the man over the bridge and into the water, 52 feet below.

Rescue crews pulled the man, who is in his late 30s or 40s, from the water and rushed him via ambulance to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the flatbed remained and the scene and refused medical treatment.

Investigations are ongoing.

MdTA police said they’re looking for any witnesses to the crash. Those who have any information should call 443-324-8894.
