Man, 25, Killed in Accident at Maryland Purina Mills Plant

Hagerstown, MD—A contract worker was killed in an industrial accident at a Maryland Purina plant on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. The fatal industrial accident occurred at Purina Mills at 11671 Hopewell Road at around 4:30 p.m., reported the Public Opinion.

According to Washington County Sheriff’s office, Aaron Ball, 25, was killed when he fell into a feeder line as he was clearing a machine at the plant. Ball was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.

Jeanne Forbis, company spokesperson said, “The cause of the accident is under investigation by the company and the Maryland Occupational Health and Safety division. The company extends deepest sympathy to the family of the contract worker, and is providing employee assistance to facility workers as appropriate.”

Purina Mills is best known for being the maker of pet food products, like Purina Puppy Chow.

MOSH is currently investigating the fatal industrial accident.
