Hollywood, CA — San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito was injured in a two-vehicle collision on the eve of opening day. The automobile accident occurred at about 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2011 at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Sunset Plaza Drive, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Zito was rushed by responding emergency crews to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment and was later released.

Details of the accident are still unavailable.

“It appears to be just a minor incident at this time,” said Sgt. M. Arriaga, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The identities of the other driver and possible passengers are also being withheld.

The defending-champion Giants will be opening the season with a 5 p.m. game on Thursday against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
