Cartersville, GA — A school bus hit and killed an 8-year-old boy at a bus barn where his mother worked on Monday, March 14, 2011. The fatal school bus accident occurred just before 4 p.m. at the Cartersville City School Bus facility on Milner Road in Bartow County, reported CBS Atlanta.

According to police officials, 8-year-old Cartersville Primary School student Garrett Black was dropped off at the bus barn where his mother worked just like every other day. The driver of the bus that dropped off Black is his aunt, who watched the whole accident unfold.

“He exited the bus, went around the front like he’s supposed to. As he stepped off and in front of the bus, another passing bus struck him. She saw the whole thing, and with his mother being on the location, she saw him as quick as she could have been notified,” said Capt. J.F. Cline with the Cartersville Police Department.

Police officials say they don’t expect to file any charges in the accident. No citations have been issued at this time.

Investigations are underway.
