Tampa, FL– One man was killed and another sustained serious injuries while working in a Pepsi warehouse on Friday, March 11, 2011. The workplace accident occurred around 1:20 a.m. inside of the warehouse of Pepsi Bottling Group, located one mile north of Busch Gardens and just south of the University of South Florida, as reported by WTSP.

According to officials, a robotic lift system used to move whole loaded palettes collapsed onto the workers from 20 feet in the air.

One man was crushed and killed, while the other sustained serious leg injuries. Responding emergency crews rushed the victim to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that people are usually not allowed in the area where the robotic lift is operating, but it was having maintenance done to it when it collapsed.

Police are withholding the identities of the victims, but they did reveal they were employed by an outside contractor and are from Pennsylvania.

Tampa Police and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the deadly workplace accident.
