Beaumont, TX—A bus driver with the Beaumont Independent School District drove into a district transportation office building, injuring eight people. The accident occurred on Monday, March 07, 2011 at the North Transportation Annex at about 9:15 a.m., reported the Beaumont Enterprise.

According to the Beaumont Independent School District press release, the bus driver left the transportation refueling area and drove across the street to the transportation lot, where the driver made a U-turn for unknown reasons and apparently passed out.

The bus then jumped a curb and drove through a fence, before the bus hit the transportation office building, where several other drivers were inside.

Officials believe that a medical reason caused the driver to pass out.

Responding emergency crews rushed the driver, who was unconscious, to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

Four others inside of the building were transported to Baptist Hermann Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. Three others were taken to a local emergency room via personal vehicles.

Investigations into the bus accident are underway.
