According to police officials the Western Heights Middle School bus was traveling northbound on Council Road, when it stopped at a stop sign at SW 44 in the left-turn lane and was rear-ended by a small pickup truck, driven by a teaching assistant who works at the middle school.

About 50 middle school students were on the bus at the time.
