Bloomington, IL—Three people were injured in an accidental shooting at a gun and knife show on Saturday, February 26, 2011. The shooting occurred around 11:15 a.m. at Sale Barn off South Main Street in Bloomington, as a customer was reportedly handling a loaded weapon at a vendor booth, reported by CentralIllinoisProud.com

Police officials reported that one round was discharged from the loaded gun. The bullet went through a man’s chest and then hit another man.

A third man was hurt when he hit the ground after hearing the gun discharge. He refused treatment at the scene by responding emergency crews.

One gunshot victim was taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, while the other victim was transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. Their conditions are currently unknown.

There are strict regulations banning loaded weapons at gun shows.

“We’re going be looking at those rules, maybe possible vendor violations on why that weapon was loaded, what led up to the shooting,” stated McLean County Sheriff Mike Emery.

An investigation into the shooting and who fired the gun are underway. Officials reported that the information they have collected points to an accidental shooting.
