CA Workplace Accident: Man killed in auger at Terra Bella pistachio plant

Tulare County, CA—A man who was working on a below ground auger was killed, when the machine somehow started running at the Setton Pistachio plant in Terra Bella. Emergency crews were alerted of the accident at about 8 a.m. and rushed to the plant located at 9370 Road 234 on Friday, February 11, 2011, as reported by the Porterville Recorder.

The Tulare County Fire Department reported that the 30-year-old man was working on the auger when it somehow began running, killing the worker. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency crews.

Firefighters helped to remove the unidentified worker’s body from the machinery.

The Tulare County coroner’s office is withholding the identity of the worker.

Cal-OSHA is investigating the fatal workplace accident.
