Grand Rapids, MI—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada and Steelcase Inc. have voluntarily recalled about 165,000 Cachet swivel chairs. The CPSC announced the recall on January 25, 2011.

The recall initiated after discovering that the front seat support part of the chair can crack and fail, which poses a fall hazard.

The CPSC reported, “This recall involves all Steelcase Cachet swivel chairs with model number 487 manufactured between May 2002 and October 15, 2009. The chairs have a plastic slotted seat and back design and some were sold with back and seat cushions. The model number and manufacture date are printed on a label on the underside of the base of the chair.”

Consumers and commercial customers are advised to contact Steelcase for a replacement chair or parts.

For more information concerning the recall, consumers can contact Steelcase toll-free at (800) 391-7194 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit their website at http://recall.steelcase.com. Consumers can also email Steelcase at [email protected].
