Canterbury, NH– Whiteout conditions was the likely cause of a massive pile-up on Interstate 98 southbound Saturday afternoon, January 8, 2011. The automobile accident involved as many as 40 to 50 vehicles—including two buses—just north of exit 18, as reported by WMUR.

State police reported that nine people were rushed to Concord Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Doctors believed most of the victims would be treated and released. The nature of their injuries was not reported.

No fatalities were reported.

Officers stated that one of the buses was a full-sized commercial bus and other second bus was a Tilton school bus, which was transporting a sports team.

Whiteout conditions were reported in the area.

The highway was shut down for about an hour and 20 minutes before reopening.
