Midlothian, TX—A plane crashed upon taking off from a private airstrip near Midlothian, Texas late Wednesday morning, January 5, 2011, killing two people aboard the aircraft. The site of the double-fatal aviation accident was located in close proximity to the Eagle’s Nest Estates private aviation community, about 22 miles from Dallas, according to information provided by NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

While details regarding the deadly Midlothian plane crash are scarce, Ellis County officials responded to the scene of the aviation accident and were reportedly conducting preliminary investigations.

Authorities from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were apparently notified of the aircraft wreck and were expected on the scene today.

According to NTSB statistics, a total of 1,474 general aviation accidents occurred during the year 2009. Of those plane crashes, 272 accidents claimed a total of 474 lives.
