Pickaway County, OH—A Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2010 head-on collision resulted in two traffic fatalities and left six others injured. The double-fatal accident occurred on U.S. 23, just north of U.S. 22 at 11:49 a.m., according to information provided by NBC4i.

Reports indicated Nisa N. Kolovich was behind the wheel of a 2006 Ford Escape when she swerved to avoid debris that was scattered on the road. Upon doing so, the northbound SUV careened over the grass median and into the path of oncoming traffic.

Kolovich’s Escape subsequently slammed head-on into a 1999 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, being driven by Mark A. Royce. The two-vehicle collision occurred in the left southbound lane of U.S. 23.

Royce, who was accompanied by his wife, Misty, and three children, ages 10, 9, and 6 months, was killed in the wreck. Misty Royce was rushed to Berger Hospital and then transferred to the Ohio State University Medical Center, where her injuries proved fatal.

The three children were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and listed in stable condition. Authorities did not release their identities.

Kolovich, who suffered undisclosed injuries, was transported to Grant Medical Center for treatment. A passenger in Kolovich’s vehicle, Martha K. Bledsoe was taken to Grant Medical Center for treatment as well.

An unidentified 16-year-old passenger who was also in the Ford Escape when it crashed was rushed to Berger Hospital, where he/she was treated and released.

According to reports, Mark and Misty Royce, as well as the children in the car, were en route to southern Ohio when they became involved in the deadly collision.

Mark Royce was apparently making the trip to help his daughter make funeral arrangements for his three grandchildren, who lost their lives in a mobile home fire in Scioto County on Saturday.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is expected to conduct a full investigation into the fatal motor vehicle collision (MVC). It was not clear if any charges have yet to be filed in connection with the wreck.
