Gunnison, CO– A tour bus carrying a church group from Denton, Texas drove off an icy highway in central Colorado and overturned on its side, leaving eight people injured, two of them seriously. The tour bus crash occurred around 8:20 p.m., MT on Highway 114, about eight miles southeast of Gunnison, as reported by USA Today.

The Colorado State Patrol reported that the tour bus apparently failed to negotiate a curve on the icy mountain highway, causing the bus to roll over onto its side.

The bus, operated by Gotta Go Express Trail Ways, was transporting 46 people to the Colorado town of Crested Butte when the accident occurred.

Responding emergency crews transported eight people to the hospital with injuries. Two of the victims were taken to Grand Junction with serious injuries.

A school bus transported the other 38 people to a hospital in Gunnison for precautionary measures. The passengers reportedly sustained mostly bumps and bruises.

Officers described the driving conditions at the time of the accident as “bad.” The winding roadway was icy and snowpacked.

Investigations into the accident are underway.
