Andover, MA—A 31-year-old woman was hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver outside the State Police barracks in Andover on Sunday afternoon, December 12, 2010. The motorist is now facing charges of motor vehicle homicide as a result of the hit and run crash, as reported by WHDH.

According to police officials, a 31-year-old Bradford woman was standing outside of her vehicle in the parking area of the barracks, when a white pickup truck veered from the road and struck her.

“He hit the pedestrian, he hit the vehicle, and then he continued to travel northbound without stopping,” said Sgt. Eric Bernstein of the Massachusetts State Police. The victim’s mother was reportedly in the passenger’s side of the vehicle, and witnessed the horrific accident.

The mother reportedly ran inside to report the wreck, not realizing that her daughter had been struck. When troopers went outside they found the woman lying in the grass.

One trooper jumped in his vehicle and drove north on Route 125 to look for the suspect, while another trooper administered first aid to the victim.

The trooper found the motorist about 200 blocks from the barracks, where he lost a tire as a result of the crash. The trooper then determined that the motorist was under the influence and arrested the man. The suspect was identified as 50-year-old Robert Bryant, of Bradford.

The victim was rushed to Mass General Hospital, where her injuries proved fatal.

Bryant is being held at the Andover State Police Barracks on a $50,000 bail. His charges were upgraded to motor vehicle homicide. He will be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Monday morning.

Investigations are underway.
