New Cumberland, W. Va.—An explosion at a chemical plant in New Cumberland claimed the lives of two men and hospitalized two others with burns on Thursday, December 9, 2010. The explosion occurred in the main production building just before 1:30 p.m., as reported by WTOV9.com.

The deceased workers were identified as two brothers, Jeffery Scott Fish, 39, and James E. Fish, 38.

Officials reported that the workers were moving a chemical, when the explosion occurred at AL Solutions. It is not immediately known if the moving of the chemical caused the explosion.

Six fire departments rushed to the scene, where they battled billowing smoke for hours. The fire was finally extinguished at 5:30 p.m.

Two other workers were rushed to Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of injuries they sustained in the blast. Steven Swain, 27, was reportedly badly burned and was undergoing surgery.

David Williams, an outside contractor who was at the plant at the time, is being treated for burns to his hands and face.

Investigations into the deadly chemical plant explosion are currently underway.
