Sioux Falls, SD—The worker who was hit by a falling wood panel is more seriously injured then what was originally reported. The victim, Rick Moen, 50, of Flandreau is still in critical condition at Sioux Falls hospital, as reported by the Argus Leader.

Rick’s son, Buddy Moen, said that his father is still on a breathing tube at the hospital. Rick suffered a punctured lung, a broken arm, broken ribs and a broken back as a result of the falling wooden panel.

Rick was also rushed into emergency surgery related to his aorta.

As previously reported in, “Sioux Falls Construction Accident: Worker Hit By Falling Panel, Injured,” Rick Moen was standing on a semi-truck trailer, while he was helping to guide a wooden wall panel that was being raised by crane. The panel suddenly fell and hit the worker as it was falling after initial impact.

Buddy said there is no given timetable for his father’s release from the hospital. Rick is scheduled for back surgery soon.

OSHA officials could not be reached for inquiry.

Investigations are underway.
