Lynchburg, VA—A Chatham man is dead after he became trapped between two trailers, crushing him to death on Tuesday, November 9, 2010. The fatal construction accident occurred around 5:15 p.m., at the New London Business and Technology Center off U.S. 460, as reported by WSLS 10.

Authorities reported that Rodney Lee Rigney, 57, was trying to secure air hoses between a boom dolly trailer and another trailer that was hauling a crane. Suddenly the dolly trailer rolled down an incline and pinned Rigney between the two trailers.

Goode Rescue Squad rushed Rigney to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. Sadly, medical professionals pronounced him at 6:39 p.m.

Gretna-based ADD Equipment reportedly owns the construction equipment. It is unknown what caused the trailer to begin to roll into Rigney.

Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the fatal accident. The state police are reportedly conducting an investigation as well.

The Forest Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene.
