Marion County, FL—A residential blaze claimed the lives of five children and injured at least three others in Marion County, approximately 90 miles northwest of Orlando, Monday night, Nov. 8, 2010. While authorities have yet to determine what sparked the fire, investigators were on the scene early Tuesday conducting a preliminary probe, as reported by CNN.

“The whole house was engulfed in flames. And I heard the mom yell, ‘My babies, my babies are inside’… It is very, very sad because I wanted to get all the babies out. My kids play with their kids,” said a teary-eyed neighbor who wished to remain unidentified.

According to information provided, fire rescue personnel were notified of the house blaze around 10:40 p.m. They arrived at the scene within eight minutes and quickly jumped into action.

Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman Peveeta Persaud contended, “When they arrived the structure was fully engulfed… It was a wooden structure.”

Sadly, five kids lost their lives in the residential fire. The casualties included two girls, ages 6 and 12, and three boys, ages 8, 13, 15. Their identities were not released.

Reports indicated at least three other victims suffered injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed.

Investigations are expected to be underway.
