Walesboro, IN—An unlicensed motorist, who reportedly had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, was arrested after a single-vehicle accident left two people, including a teenager, injured. The accident occurred on Interstate 65, in close proximity to the Walesboro exit, around 4:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, according to information provided by the Republic.

Reports indicated 33-year-old Shonte Hooten, of Louisville, Ky., was driving her car along I-65 when a tire blew, causing her to loose control of the vehicle. The vehicle subsequently spun out before smashing into a guardrail.

Two passengers, also from Louisville, in the vehicle were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. Indiana State Police (ISP), along with officials and personnel from the Bartholomew County Sherriff’s Department, Jonesville Fire Department and Columbus Regional Hospital responded to the crash scene.

Shanea Ealy, 17, was airlifted to University of Louisville hospital after suffering “severe head trauma” in the crash. Reports did not state whether she suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a result of the crash.

Another passenger, 32-year-old James Miller, was rushed to Columbus Regional Hospital via ambulance. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Hooten was transported to Columbus Regional as well. There medical personnel performed a blood test, which revealed she had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit of .08 percent. She was subsequently taken into custody and detained at Bartholomew County Jail.

Preliminary charges against Hooten include driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, which is a Class D felony; driving under the influence with a minor passenger, also a Class D felony; and driving with out a proper driver’s license.

Investigations continue.
