Brooklyn, NY—A freak accident claimed the life of a bicyclist, and landed an State Island woman in jail on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The New York Daily News reported that the accident occurred along Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, when the woman opened her car door to get out, at the exact same time as a bicyclist was passing by.

Police officials said Krystal Fancis, 24, parked her car along Atlantic Avenue, when she opened her car door as the bicyclist was riding by. The impact of the bicyclist hitting the car door flung him into the path of an oncoming B45 bus. The bus then ran the 23-year-old bicyclist over, leaving her dead.

One witness reported that the bicyclist’s head was under the tire of the bus, as it ran her over.

Francis was arrest for unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

Authorities are withholding the identity of the bicyclist, only stating that she was from out of state.

The bus driver and Francis was asked to give a Breathalyzer test at the scene, in which they both passed.

A full investigation is currently underway.
