Washington, D.C.—Nearly 345,000 luxury BMW vehicles were recalled on Thursday, September 29, 2010, to fix leaks that could develop in the power braking system, as reported by MSNBC.

BMW North America recalled the 2002-2010 BMW 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series vehicles, which are powered by V8 and V12 engines. About 6,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom models could also be affected by the recall.

According to the German automaker, “The leak could develop in the power braking system, leading to a vacuum loss and the reduction of power braking assistance. Mechanical braking is still available to slow and stop the vehicle.”

At this time there have been no reports of injuries or accidents resulting from the braking issue.

Drivers who experience reduced power braking assistance should immediately schedule a service appointment. Owners will be notified by mail in the next couple of weeks to schedule an appointment with their dealer to resolve the braking issue.
