Chicago, IL– Martha Stewart’s company is coming under fire for allegedly infringing on an Illinois manufacturer’s patent for a bedbug mattress protector. JAB Distributors LLC filed suit Thursday against Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. in U.S. District Court in Chicago, as reported by the Associated Press.

The Northbrook, Ill., company, JAB Distributors claim that Martha Stewart Living’s Martha Stewart Collection Allergy Wise Mattress Protector infringes on its patent. JAB, who received the patent last year, makes “Protect-A-Bed” mattress protectors.

The infringement lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.

Recently, there has seemingly been an outbreak of bedbug infestations. Bedbugs are small parasitic insects which thrive in mattresses, furniture and clothing.

JAB has asked for a jury trial. The next hearing for the infringement case is Oct. 27.
