Hollywood, CA—Two captains from The Discovery Channel’s hit television series, the “Deadliest Catch,” are facing a $3 million lawsuit for allegedly breaching their contract with the network. The television network giant is seeking damages after the captains allegedly failed to live up to an agreement to complete a spin-off project, as reported by the New York Times and ABC News.

The Discovery Channel claims that the two captains, Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand, were filmed for a “separate, one-time television special,” called “Hillstranded,” which was a segment about their lives when they were on land, instead of out to sea. The Discovery Channel claims the Hillstrands did not appear for a voice-over and interview sessions, which were required later in production.

But lawyers for the Hillstrands contended, “Discovery’s actions as ‘arrogance and greed run amok.’” The Hillstrands attorneys also claimed that “Three million dollars is exponentially greater than any compensation ever paid to the ‘Deadliest Catch’ captains, and yet this is the figure Discovery is trying to extort from these men.”

The captains could face bankruptcy if the lawsuit proves beneficial to the Discovery Channel.

The Discovery Channel claims they tried to resolve the issues before filing the lawsuit.
