San Francisco, CA—About 1,600 tea sets have been voluntarily recalled by International Coffee & Tea, LLC, dba The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The CPSC announced the recall on September 16, 2010, over a fire hazard the tea sets pose.

The recall was initiated after discovering that the metallic decorations of the tea sets can spark if used in a microwave oven, which poses a fire risk to users.

The CPSC press released reported, “This recall involves the Tea for One “Flourish” design tea pot set, which includes a stackable teapot and cup. The teapot and cup are white ceramic with matching metallic foil decorations on each. The tea cup is marked “Dishwasher and microwave safe” and “Made in China” on the bottom, in English and French.”

The recalled tea sets were sold at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® stores in California, Arizona and Nevada for about $12. The tea sets were also sold online at www.coffeebean.com for about $10 from March 2010 through August 2010.

Consumers are advised to return the tea sets to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® stores to receive a full refund. If you purchased the product online, contact The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® for instructions on how to return the product by mail.

For further information concerning the recall, consumers can contact The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® at (800) 832-5323/(800) TEA LEAF between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit their website at www.coffeebean.com.
