Dallas, TX—Two men sleeping in DART bus stop were tragically killed when a drunk driver slammed into the partially enclosed structure. The fatal crash occurred Monday morning, September 13, 2010, at around 2:30 a.m., near the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Inwood Road, as reported by CBS11 and the Dallas Morning News.

Erick Sanders, 36, and Howard Knatt, 58, were the two men who were killed when Julian Cadena Cerda, 50, slammed into the bus stop. Initial reports indicated that Sanders and Knatt were homeless, but it was later discovered that Sanders actually lived with his brother and was not homeless.

Sanders and Knatt were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

According to police officials, Cerda lost control of his gray Chevy Silverado pickup truck, and basically “flattened” the bus stop.

Cerda was shaken following the wreck, only sustaining minor cuts and bruises.

Cerda faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter and is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $200,000 bail.

Officials also believe that Cerda is in the U.S. illegally.

A full investigation is underway.
