Des Moines, IA– A head-on collision killed one person and injured three others on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, when a passenger sedan crossed over into oncoming traffic. The fatal collision occurred around 4:20 p.m., on Iowa Highway 28 in Norwalk, as reported by the Des Moines Register.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that a 2000 Mercury Marquis was traveling southbound on Iowa 28, when the driver, Sheryl Freeman, 62, of Norwalk, crossed over a raised median and into oncoming traffic. The sedan subsequently hit a northbound 1990 Jeep Cherokee driven by Joshua Warden, 18, of Norwalk.

The collision killed Jennifer Letze, 28, of Des Moines, who was a passenger in the Jeep. Letze was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Both Freeman and Warden were airlifted to Des Moines area hospital for treatment. Another passenger in the Jeep, Tyler Rounds, 18, of Des Moines was also taken to an area hospital. All three victims are reportedly in critical condition.

Charges are pending the outcome of the Iowa State Patrol’s investigation. It is unknown what caused the car to cross over into oncoming traffic.
