San Francisco, CA—A four-vehicle crash on the Golden Gate Bridge left two people injured on Tuesday, August 17, 2010. The multiple vehicle collision occurred around 9 a.m., as reported by the San Francisco Examiner.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a northbound semi-truck rear-ended a Kia Rio, which caused the car to shoot counterclockwise into the southbound lanes of traffic. The Rio then slammed head-on into a southbound Porsche, before spinning out and hitting the back of a southbound Toyota Camry.

The collision injured two people, including the driver of the Rio. The injured were transported by responding emergency crews to an area hospital for treatment. Their injuries were reportedly not considered to be life threatening.

Safety advocates have been pushing for a median in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge since it opened in 1937. Over 38 million vehicles reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic last year. Currently the north and southbound lanes are only separated by rubber traffic pylons.

A full investigation into the wreck is under way.
