Salinas, CA—A voluntarily product recall of 2,825 cases of salad has been initiated after a random sample tested positive for Listeria Monocytogenes. Fresh Express announced the recall on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, as reported by KSBW.

The recall involves Veggies Lovers Salad with a product code of I208, and a use-by date of Aug. 10. The recall was initiated after one of the packages of Fresh Express Veggie Lovers Salad tested positive for Listeria in a random sampling by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled salad at this time.

The recall involves 13 states, with the possible redistribution in 14 states. This is Fresh Express’ third voluntary recall over the past three months.

Fresh Express is reportedly working with regulatory officials to correct the problem.

According to Wikipedia, Listeria is “responsible for approximately 2,500 illnesses and 500 deaths in the United States annually.” Symptoms of an Listeria infection include fever, muscle aches and nausea or diarrhea.
