Food Safety: Potentially Contaminated Eugenio Brezzi Truffle Puree Recalled

Miami, FL—Optimus, Inc. dba Marky’s, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled Eugenio Brezzi Truffle Puree products due to potential contamination from under-processing. The FDA announced the food safety recall on Wednesday, August 4, 2010.

Optimus, Inc. dba Marky’s issued the recall after discovering a deficiency in the manufacturing process of the puree. “Because of this problem, there is a possibility that the products could be contaminated with microorganisms or other harmful substance,” the FDA explained.

Individuals who consume the under-processed Eugenio Brezzi Truffle Puree run the risk of suffering adverse health effects, including gastrointestinal disease. The company has yet to receive any reports of illnesses.

The Eugenio Brezzi Truffle Puree products were imported from Italy and distributed to outlets between February 2009 and July 2010. Retail outlets in the following states likely carried the product on store shelves: AR, AK, CA, FL, KY, LA, ME, MA, MD, NJ, NM, NY, NC, RI, TX, TN, and VA.

Consumers who purchased any of the following puree products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full reimbursement:
